Update 1 on Kg Kuchai (Kuchan / Kuo Chuan) Lorong Tiga:
On 6 April 2013, the former headman of Kampung Kuchai Hj Jantan bin Iman (BBM) was interviewed by one of the Singapura Stories members, Imran bin Tajudeen, with a group of history enthusiasts who made the interview possible. The fellow history enthsusiasts were former residents of Kg Kuchan Lorong Tiga and Geylang Serai. (an article on this interview will be posted)
Kg Kuchan/Kuchai Lor Tiga (labelled “Kg Kuchai” in the map above, written below “LORONG TIGA ESTATE”) is connected to the very old Malay village at Tg Rhu, which is in turn connected with a section of the original Malay settlement at the Singapore River.
The residents of this historic kampung thus count among the original Malay residents of Singapura who were already living here before Raffles’ arrival.
We regret to inform that Hj Jantan bin Iman has passed away on 5th July 2015 at the age of 92. A short post on his life and contributions will be posted in due course when more information has been collated.
Update 2:
Seminar 11 on Kg Kuchan/Kuchai Lorong 3 Geylang, on its community, architecture, and link to ancestor settlements at Tg Rhu and Singapore River, will take place on Saturday 8 Oct, 2016, 2-5pm at the Possibility Room, National Library.

Besides Kg Kuchan / Kuchai there were also the many Lorongs leading off Geylang Road that make up the old residential district of Geylang. This was formerly an area with a mix of shophouses, rowhouses and Compound Houses / kampung houses.
We are currently looking for information and stories on houses, people, and community histories from former residents of Kampung Kuchai, Kampung Hock Soon, Lorong Tiga Estate, Kampung Wak Tanjung and the residents of Geylang Lorong 1 to 42.
We welcome anyone with more information to contact us. Thank you to the former residents who have left us messages – we will be in touch soon!
