A talk on the book Kilat Senja by the author, Prof Hadijah Rahmat
Saturday 6 April 2013, 2-4 pm
Sultan Mosque Seminar Room (Annexe Building)
This Seminar will present the highlights of the findings and insights of an important work, Kilat Senja. The author, Prof Hadijah Rahmat, will share the decades-long work behind the collection of information, the site visits, interviews, and documentation that go ito this voluminous collection of histories and stories behind numerous kampungs in Singapura. These stories are important as they record the social and architectural histories of places that have disappeared without a trace, such as the three settlements that make up Kampung Bedok, Kampung Teluk Saga at Pulau Brani, and numerous others. Prof Hadijah’s work also documents and collates materials on numerous pioneers, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs such as Haji Kahar Palembang, Fatimah Haron, JP, and Penghulu Lasem of Siglap, and their contributions to Singapura.
This is the first event in a Seminar Series that will showcase important works on aspects of Singapura histories.
